From My House To Antarctica: imagining the great unknown... An exhibition by Annalise Rees in response to the Mawson and Australian Polar Collections at the South Australian Museum. Part of the Inside SAM's Place program Nov 26 2010 - Jan 30 2011. Upcoming exhibition at the South Australian Museum in response to the Mawson And Australian Polar Collections. Annalise Rees will exhibit two and three dimensional works focusing on South Australia's historical connection with Antarctic exploration. Looking closely at the role maps have played in creating our perceptions of place Annalise's work will explore the convention of the map to try and communicate an artist's impression of how one might imagine Antarctica to be. As part of Annalise's project she has been working with local school children to research and develop their own imaginary journeys to the South Pole. Acting as expedition leaders the children have created works also in response to the collection. These will sit alongside the artist's work to further consider what Antarctica means within Australian perception.
